Supporting Workplace Chaplains
There is nothing new about intertwining faith with the economic world. Jesus told many stories about work and places of work. In Acts, his first followers sought to fulfil their calling by going to where the people were, including markets and cities that were the centres of trade.

John Wesley struggled to convince others that the Church should be freed from its buildings and be prepared to meet the people on their own ground.
Workplace Chaplains

A nationwide network of more than 120 Methodist ministers and lay people are employed to visit a workplace on a regular basis and are supported by the Church.

These people go into places of work and form relationships with employees. By being alongside workers the chaplains help and encourage people to adjust to change in the workplace, and any pastoral considerations. Chaplains also act as a witness to the Christian faith and have exciting opportunities for evangelism to people who might never otherwise hear about Jesus Christ.
Chaplains understand the day to day issues facing employees, and the nature of the business they are involved with. They know about a range of work related topics, including how the economic outlook might affect the business, what the financial impact of low pay is on individuals and about stress and bullying in the workplace.
Methodist Workplace Chaplains can be found in a whole range of business sectors from traditional industries such as mining, railways and shipbuilding as well as broadcasting and airports. There is even a Methodist Chaplain at Newmarket racecourse!
